Crystal: the CWOS 2012 theme

To celebrate the 15th Crystal Anniversary of CWOS, Artspace is taking artists up on their openness to working with a thematic current. Artspace is focusing on the idea of crystal, in all its literal and symbolic manifestations. Though participation in this special thematic initiative is entirely optional, we invite you to incorporate the idea into works to be displayed in your studio or Alternative Space. Artspace will create a distinctive focus on these works and we hope you’ll want to take part.

We invite you to draw inspiration from crystals in all their manifestations—whether in scientific, chemical, mathematical or cultural contexts. From the luxe to the mystical, we will celebrate it all.

Like the Crystal Palace plate-glass building, a marvel of engineering constructed by Joseph Paxton for the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London, Artspace's Crystal Anniversary aims to illuminate and amaze. Your efforts will be supported via a special media campaign, signage in the studios, and guided studio visits. We look forward to seeing your ideas—broad interpretations will be most welcome— and to doing our part to make them sparkle.
